Featheredge Property Solutions is a landscaper based in Alloa, and we cover landscaping across Clackmannanshire, from Tullibody and Sauchie to the Hillfoots villages of Menstrie, Alva, Tillicoultry and Dollar. We build patios and paths, put up and repair fences, sort out wet gardens and fix the outside of the house. The next step is a free visit: call the office, send a WhatsApp or use our quote form.

The firm is run by James McKenzie, who has over 15 years’ experience in landscaping and property maintenance. Clackmannanshire is where we live and work, so our customers are our neighbours, and we want every garden we leave to be one we are happy to be judged on.

Local landscape gardeners for the Wee County

Plenty of firms list Alloa on their website but are based well outside the county. We are not one of them. When you search for landscape gardeners in Alloa, Tullibody or Dollar, you want someone who knows the ground here, turns up when they say they will and is still around if you need them next year.

We cover both halves of the job. Garden work includes patios, paths, fencing, turf, drainage, gravel and hedges. Property work covers gutters, brickwork, steps and cement repairs. That means one visit and one quote, rather than three trades and three sets of arrangements.

The Hillfoots: Menstrie, Alva, Tillicoultry and Dollar

The Hillfoots villages run along the foot of the Ochil Hills, which climb to 721 metres at Ben Cleuch. The glens above Alva, Tillicoultry and Dollar send burns straight down towards the houses, and every wet spell brings more water off the slopes. Add heavy ground and it is no surprise that many gardens here stay soft from October to March.

The signs are familiar: a lawn that squelches underfoot, a patio that holds puddles, or a fence post that has rotted at ground level. We look at where the water comes from before recommending anything. The answer might be garden drainage, such as a French drain or a soakaway, regrading the ground, or a mix of both. There is little point laying a new lawn or patio on ground that will flood again next winter.

Slopes bring their own jobs. Where a garden climbs towards the hills, soil and water drift down to the house end. Retaining edges, steps and paths laid to a proper fall all help keep things in place.

Some Hillfoots streets need extra care. Clackmannanshire Council has seven conservation areas, and two of them are in Dollar and Tillicoultry. The council’s built heritage pages have a map and appraisal for each. If your home is in one, we will raise it at the quote visit so you can check before any trees, walls or front boundaries are touched.

Alloa, Tullibody, Sauchie and the Forth side

Lower down, Alloa, Tullibody, Sauchie, Clackmannan, Cambus and Fishcross sit on flatter ground towards the River Forth, which the River Devon joins at Cambus. The jobs here are different: tired lawns, sunken slabs, old fences and front gardens that have been let go.

These are often quick wins. Relaying a front path or putting up a new run of fencing makes a real difference to how a house looks from the street. Our patios and paths work starts with the base, because slabs that rock or hold water almost always have a problem underneath.

Fencing and storm repairs across the county

Clackmannanshire gets its share of winter wind, especially on open ground around Sauchie, Fishcross and the edge of the Ochils. Panels blow out, posts snap at the base and gates stop closing.

Our fencing work covers new fences and repairs to the fence you already have. Often only a few posts or panels need replacing, not the whole run. On a new fence, posts are set in concrete, typically around 600mm into the ground for a standard 1.8 metre fence, with gravel boards to keep the timber off wet soil.

Gutters, walls and older stone cottages

Housing here is a real mix: stone cottages in the Hillfoots and old Alloa, and ex-council semis and terraces across Alloa, Tullibody and Sauchie. Older houses often need garden walls repointed or worn front steps rebuilt. Newer ones tend to need tired concrete paths and fences replaced.

Gutters matter on both. A gutter that overflows in heavy rain soaks the wall below and can lead to damp inside. We carry out gutter repairs and replacement across the county. We do not do roofing, and if a job needs a specialist, we will tell you honestly.

Questions

Working in Clackmannanshire

Do you cover the Hillfoots villages as well as Alloa?

Yes. We are based in Alloa and cover the whole of Clackmannanshire, including Menstrie, Alva, Tillicoultry and Dollar along the foot of the Ochils, plus Tullibody, Sauchie, Clackmannan, Cambus and Fishcross. If you are not sure whether we reach your street, call the office and ask.

My Hillfoots garden is always wet. Can a landscaper fix that?

Usually, yes. Gardens under the Ochils take run-off from the slopes, and heavy ground holds onto it. We find where the water comes from and where it can go, then suggest the right fix, such as a French drain, a soakaway or better levels, before any new lawn or patio goes down.

Do I need permission for garden work in Dollar or Tillicoultry?

Most garden jobs do not need it, but both towns have conservation areas where extra rules can apply to trees, walls and front boundaries. Clackmannanshire Council publishes a map and appraisal for each one. We will flag anything that needs checking at the quote visit, before work starts.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Because we cover landscaping and outside property repairs, we can look at a sunken patio, a leaning fence and a leaking gutter on the same visit. You get one written quote for the lot, and we plan the work so it runs in a sensible order.
